In 2007, 647 scientific programmes have been implemented, an increase of 137. Technological contracts totals 1.2 billion yuan, an increase of 31.9%. There are 8969 patent applications, an increase of 9.1% and 4119 authorized patents, an increase of 32.7%. The High-Tech Development Zone has an income of 78 billion yuan, an increase of 17%. The exports reaches 240 million US dollars, an increase of 50.5%. 207 projects are newly introduced and 66.02 million US dollars of foreign investment is practically used, an increase of 56.2%.

Fundamental education, quality education and adult educaton are among the best in the whole country. In 2007, there are 1.3499 million students in different kinds of schools, an increase of 2.4% compared with the previous year. There are 39 schools of higher education with 181.9 thousand students, an increase of 6.1%. There are 565 thousand students at school, an increase of 5.9%.
